Saint Virgin Mary Church

There is a monument stone and a tablet there, which were made into a memorial to the Discovery of the Hidden Christians.

St. Virgin Mary Church was another of the four secret churches, also in the Motohara region. The church was located in the backyard of Mizukata Mataichi （the baptizer mentioned previously）. In the early morning of 15th July 1867, the governmental authorities rushed into the secret church to arrest Hidden Christians. While Father Laucaigne, who was holding the morning service, managed to escape, Mataichi and his son Tomokichi and other Christians were arrested and eventually banished to Tsuwano.
