Motohara Church

In 1952, the Archbishop of Nagasaki, YAMAGUCHI Aijiro, decided to consecrate Motohara 3-Chome Kurabu and to dedicate the provisional church to Saint Paul Miki. When the Nagasaki Monastery was established at present day Mihara by the Franciscan Order in 1959, the provisional church was moved. In 1960, the newly established Motohara diocese was entrusted to the Franciscan Order. It is said that Canadian Franciscans donated funds for the construction of the Motohara Church.
Archbishop of Nagasaki YAMAGUCHI Aijiro blessed the new church which was completed on 20th May 1962.

Saint Pedro Bautista who was one of the 26 martyrs is a patron saint of Motohara Church. A bronze statue is placed at the front entrance, facing down to the Urakami area.
